Nothing quenches the thirst on a hot, muggy day better than cool, refreshing Vinho Verde. New to our palates is this delicious rendition from Gateway. A blend of indigenous Trajadura, Loureiro, Arinto and Azal hailing from Vinho Verde’s Amarante sub-region, Gateway’s Vinho Verde casts a pale lemon-gold color from the glass, highlighted by glints of green. Fresh and inviting on the nose, the wine presents crisp lemon-lime fruit complemented by suggestions of green apple, acacia and wintergreen. 

Crisp on the palate, the wine’s sweet apple and green melon fruit is countered by brisk citric acidity and complemented by suggestions of white flowers. The Vinho Verde finishes clean and refreshing, begging you to take another bite of grilled octopus, steamed mussels and clams, white-fleshed fish recipes and light pork and poultry preparations. Whether for pairing with seafood dishes or just for enjoying by itself, Vinho Verde is the value play in summertime white wine.

Vinification:

The grapes were hand picked at optimum ripeness at the end of September. The grapes come from several vineyards and selected in the cellar.

The bunches are pressed whole, the juice is then fermented slowly in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.

The wine is bottled young in order to preserve the natural fruity flavors and the freshness from the grapes.

Soil: The Domain is located in the heart of an abundant «garrigue» nearby the Mediterranean shore. The soils are mainly limestone with some sandstone,

red clay and shale. Mediterranean climate with strong sea influence.

Grapes: 100% Organic Viognier.

Harvest: Manual harvest. In small crates. Cool room to avoid oxidation.

Yield: 35 hl/ha

Vinification: Sorting table direct pressing with gas. Fermentation in stainless steel with temperature control

Alcohol: 12.5 %

Tasting: This fresh and fruity Viognier presents powerful aromas of white flesh fruits, citrus, and white flowers. Ideal for an aperitif, or to serve with a grilled fish dish, poultry, or Asian dish.

Serve at 10°C.

In the last 30 years in the vineyards of Bodegas Carrau of Cerro Chapeu, we have explored the best soils and plots
of the varieties that were best adapted for grapes of high expression and quality. In this wine we have developed a very fine
wine from Pinot noir grapes developed in hills of 300 m altitude in Cerro Chapeu, which highlight the potential
of this variety.

CLIMATE: Temperate, continental over 300 m above sea level, with good thermal differential.

SOIL TYPES: Reddish sand, very low fertility, deep and with great drainage.

TYPE OF GRAPES: 100% Pinot Noir.

TYPE OF HARVEST: Manual and transported in boxes of 16 kg.

PUSHED: On the tank without pumps.

12 days of fermentation at 22-25 degrees Celsius in open tanks with a maceration of 10 days. End of fermentation in the barrels with spontaneous malolactic fermentation in 50% American and 50% French oak barrels for 6 months.

Bright color and ruby ​​red, medium body.

The very subtle oak respects and gives complexity to the varietal aromas. 

In the mouth, acidity and very vivid tannins that give it finesse and potential for storage. 

A wine whose bottled time will offer more complexity. Ideal to accompany all kinds of pates, soft sausages and pasta. Also for a desktop with soft cheeses. Drink at 18ºC

HISTORY

Our main goal is to produce wines with an extreme personality in an area where we think that it is very unique to grow grapes and make very interesting wines.

The project was born in 2009 with the vision of producing great wines in a remote and surprising region. Several varieties are very well adapted to the climate, the soils and the altitude of this region of Spain, making it possible to produce wines with character and a definite sense of place.

PADULES- THE REGION OF IGP RIBERA DEL ANDARAX

Padules, is the village where Pagos de Indalia is located, it is nestled on the Andarax creek between Sierra Nevada and Sierra Gador. This landscape, with big ravines and big slopes, forces us to use mules in many of our vineyards where you cannot use machines and you have to travel back to the old times to take care of the grapes.

The vineyards are calcareous in the area of the Andarax creek and amazing slate soils closer to Sierra Nevada, in the highest vineyards, where elevations top 3300 feet over sea level.

Our philosophy is to preserve the environment of the region. All the vineyards that we own are certified by the government of Andalucia with the stamp of organic agriculture.

VARIETAL:  50% Syrah / 50% Temp.  The Syrah has been very well adapted to the calcareous soils that we have around Padules. The Tempranillo

Is in the highest altitudes and grown in very dry soils. Those vines are alive just with the humidity of the Alborán sea mist. This particular microclimate combined with the slate soils and with a huge difference in temperature between day/night, allows us to produce wines with a mineral character that are very age worthy.  We produced this wine in collaboration with Gretchen Thomas, Barcelona’s Corporate Director of Beverage. Founded in 1865, Bibbiano is in the historic Chianti region, in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti, overlooking the Elsa Valley towards the castle of Monteriggioni. Today’s owners, Tommaso and Federico Marrocchesi Marzi, are the fifth generation. Surrounded by vast olive groves consisting of over three thousand trees, Bibbiano’s vineyards cover an area of about 25 hectares, at an altitude ranging from 270 to 300 meters, with enviable exposure and excellent microclimate. The vineyards consist of plants of Sangiovese and Sangiovese Grosso grapes as well as a smaller quantity of Colorino.

Tenuta di Bibbiano was the longest standing consultancy of famed winemaker Giulio Gambelli, also famous for his long relationships with Montevertine and Case Basse di Soldera. Their decades-long association with Gambelli, under whom Bibbiano’s current winemaker trained, still lives on in their traditional approach to winemaking and their commitment to 100%-pure Sangiovese wines. Harvest is still done manually, and grapes carefully selected, with different vinification procedures according to the position of the slopes on which the grapes were grown. They are committed to replanting vineyards using wood poles and columns and by planting only autochthonous grapes. Bibbiano is committed to promoting conservative renovation of the farms, in order to not lose their architectural and human heritage and its very ancient history. The estate was certified organic in 2011.

THE WINE:

Very pleasant, persistent, of a good complexity. Marked fruity notes of underbrush and cherry combined with palatable spicy notes of black pepper, tobacco and cocoa.
